Why the Danes wouldn't

Article Abstract:

Denmark voted against the ratification of the Maastricht treaty to preserve its national independence. Denmark may suffer dire economic consequences, such as decreased foreign investment, if it does not become a member of the European Community.

The morning after the blow fell

Article Abstract:

Member countries of the EC are determined to ratify the Maastricht treaty and exclude Denmark from the EC. If this occurs, Denmark may hold a second referendum on select parts of the treaty that would allow them to preserve their sovereignty.
