Marketing management in Japan has long been based on business conditions that favored firms that sold a large number of products through networks of small retailers. Japanese manufacturers now must confront conditions that favor big retailers and fewer products.

A clause in the fifth amendment of the Constitution states that a land owner must be compensated by the government when his land is seized or condemned. The clause is currently used in matters such as government prohibition of land development.
