Telefonica chairman, Juan Villalonga, is focusing on company's expansion in Latin America, despite a drop in profit from that market for the first three quarters of 1998. He has decided that Telefonica's name should no longer include 'de Espana'. He sees Latin America as having strong growth prospects, though there are risks, such as a possible Brazilian currency devaluation.
