A militia group known as the Republic of Texas took hostages on Apr 27, 1997, as part of a declaration of war against the US. The group, led by 'ambassador' Richard McLaren, claimed Texas never legally joined the US, and fas filed many lawsuits claiming assets that belong to the 'republic.'

Teddy Roosevelt rides again
Article Abstract:
Pres Bill Clinton is influenced greatly by former president Teddy Roosevelt, as the US is presently undergoing economic and social changes similar to those that took place when Roosevelt served as president. Clinton and Roosevelt both used ideas of their opponents to their advantage.

A study by the Institute for Intl Economics argues that the role of the G7 has diminished as old economic conflicts between member countries have increased. The study's shortcoming is its attempt to envision a new G7 that is more cooperative.
