The East Midlands: a home for venture capital

Article Abstract:

Lloyds Development Capital have moved into Nottingham, East Midlands, England, to bring their expertise and funding capability to local companies looking for corporate finance. The company has already invested about 30 million pounds sterling in the area. It is likely the number of management buy-ins and management buyout deals will increase as the region contains several of the types of enterprises which are often sold to management teams, such as manufacturing and engineering businesses. The venture capital market in the East Midlands was worth 291 million pounds sterling in 1997.

Speaking frankly

Article Abstract:

UK-based finance house Gresham Trust managing director Trevor Jones believes there is a possibility of overheating in the market of 1998 although the UK economy is potentially a lot more stable than it was in 1988 when the bottom fell out of the market. Gresham Trust would like to expand further into Europe in the area of deals above a value of 200 million pound sterling, according to Jones, with Germany being the best choice. Gresham Trust has formed a co-investment partnership with Eagle Star General to increase its underwriting ability to 20 million pounds sterling.
