The Tories under John Major must clarify their posture toward European union, given the present uncertain future of the political union envisioned by the Maastricht treaty.

The Tories' beef about Europe

Article Abstract:

British sovereignty is the real issue underlying the Tories' arguments about Europe's ban on British beef and other points of dispute with the EU. As was the case with the 1975 referendum, the British government is being dishonest in disguising its real intent behind economic issues.
