The effects of learning on the firm's optimal design quality path

Article Abstract:

The control theoretic model, known as optimum quality path in the presence of learning (OQPL), for guiding a firm's decisions on the design quality path of a specific product over its life cycle is introduced. The model, which employs the design quality level as the decision variable, underscores the impact of manufacturing and market changes on market share. These include market responses to quality and price as well as learning from production experience.

Solution of the generalized Townsend single machine scheduling model

Article Abstract:

An improved branching method has been developed for the solution of the generalized version of Townsend's n-job single machine scheduling model. The method is used as a less decomposable version of the problem. Experiments on 60 problems of size n = 20, 50 and 100, where n equals the number of jobs, showed that the method significantly improves on the branch and bound method developed by Szwarc (1990) for the problem.
