The United Nations social summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark in Mar 1995, discussed restrictions on foreign aid packages. The US decided to give 50% of the Agency for International Development's budget to private agencies rather than governments, in an effort to prevent misuse of funds.

International efforts to avert crises such as the Mexican peso problem of 1995 led to new ideas about the importance of information sharing, monitoring of emerging markets and international cooperation. Currency troubles now occurring in Southeast Asia are discussed.
