The illiquid land of the rising sun

Article Abstract:

The Japanese economic system that successfully lifted the country from the devastation of the Second World War has also concentrated much of the nation's wealth in land. This high valuation of Japanese real estate, useful as collaterals when applying for loans, now serves as a hindrance to the revitalization of the economy. The illiquid state of Japanese real estate, which has led to its inefficient utilization, must be addressed if the country is to achieve a successful restructuring of its economy.

Gulf producers and the oil majors: it's not deja vu all over again

Some implications of this relationship for foreign participation include liberalization and privatization, and the invitation of foreign firms by oil producers.
