The implementation of simultaneous engineering in the stage of product concept development: a process oriented improvement of quality of function deployment

Article Abstract:

The model of 'Integrated Concept Development' (ICoDe) was utilized as an alternative of quality function deployment (QFD) for the implementation of Simultaneous Engineering (SE). The explorative application of the ICoDe model also demonstrated the ability of the process to contribute to a better integration of marketing, marketing science, quality management and product design compared to QFD. The ICoDe model also extended the traditional QFD model to a universal approach of concept development by linking it to marketing science methods during the early phases of product development.

The development of modular-based design in considering technology complexity

Article Abstract:

A study developed an approach to concurrent design scheduling of systems based on series-parallel design to support concurrent engineering. First, fuzzy cluster identification is used to classify different types of functions into different types of modules according to the correlation in design. Then the best module type is selected to plan parallel action in designing. Finally, the series action within each module is scheduled by estimating the information content of each function.
