The negative tactics used by Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole in the second debate with Bill Clinton demonstrate a last-ditch effort to gain votes. However, his campaign has been lackluster and the use of negative comments is likely to make people less likely to vote for him.

A survey of 41 macroeconomists shows that they believe Pres Clinton's economic policies and proposed tax changes are sounder than those of Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole. The economists believe Dole's planned tax cuts are irresponsible.
