The Credit Lyonnais scandal highlights the inadequacies of the entire French political system that promoted the interests of the elite instead of the interests of the economy by allowing fraud and incompetence that left state-owned banks with bank loans. The financial disaster became possible because of a lack of transparency and an attempt to keep incompetent individuals in power just because they belong to the political elite.
