The lunchbox tourists

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong's tourist industry has been affected by the Asian economic crisis, and tourists are spending less despite a recovery in numbers since summer 1998. There are fewer Japanese tourists, and more tourists from mainland China. Tourism has been hit throughout South-East Asia, but Hong Konghas been worst affected and has being expensive since it has not devalued. Currency devaluations complicate calculations in countries in the region other than Hong Kong, where the currency has not changed, and visitors are clearly spending less.

Libya's fair-skinned non-conformists

Article Abstract:

Jebel Akhdar is a region of Libya which is characterized by independence, and there are open criticisms of the government. Armed resistance has almost died out, but there is a strong police presence. There is hope that tourism could develop in the region following the end of a United Nations embargo. The region has yet to develop facilities for foreign tourists, and only archaeologists are present as foreigners. Bad management is the main cause of the region's problems, and the same is true for Libya as a whole.
