The meaning of Mandelson

Article Abstract:

UK Minister without Portfolio Peter Mandelson is one of the most unpopular members of the government, but Prime Minister Tony Blair seems determined to promote him. Some observers attribute his unpopularity to the fact that he has shown dubious personal style, cultivating friendships temporarily but being most concerned with increasing his own influence. Others feel that he has always had an uneasy relationship with the Labour party. It is inevitable that conflict will arise if Blair decides to give Mandelson a cabinet position.
