The waiting game is over
Article Abstract:
The election of Jacques Chirac as the new French president brings to an end months of uncertainty for the merger and acquisitions market. The new president has pledged to reduce the 12.3% unemployment rate and to proceed with the previous administration's privatisation programme. Several sales are scheduled before end-1995, including the sell-off of steel maker Usinor-Sacinor and insurer Assurances Generales de France. During the first three months of 1995, cross-border acquisitions in France totalled 54, against 262 deals during 1994.
