Currency speculation brought the possibility of a devaluation of Finnish currency and threatened to drain foreign-exchange reserves. The event highlighted the economic woes of Finland and the vulnerability of smaller central banks outside of the European monetary system.

Shakier than they should be: Japan's trust banks
Article Abstract:
Trust banks are becoming strained by bad loans made to property, construction and other areas which accounted for 26% of loans in 1992. Although trust assets do not appear on a bank balance sheet, widespread lending has become a threat.
