Article Abstract:
Bolkestein, leader of the Liberal party in the Netherlands, was criticized by Parliament members for conflict of interest over a drug approval matter. The scandal was relatively minor and will probably not jeopardize Bolkestein's popularity and influence on such issues as European relations.

German reunification has not created a European superpower as some thought it would. Germany's military is only modest in size, and its economy has only increased slightly. It does, however, have 22% of the total European Union population.
