Spanish steel cable company Tycsa (Trenzas y Cables de Acero), which is part of the Global Steel Wire group, has begun activity at its new Santander plant where it will be producing some 86,000 tonnes per year with a turnover of around Pta 8,000mn. The official inauguration date for the plant is January 1, 1999. Tycsa has another plant in Cataluna. The company exports nearly 80% of production and has a yearly turnover of Pta 20,000mn. The aim of the new plant is to strengthen the company's presence in the East European and American markets.

Global Steel Wire instala una nueva fabrica de cables

The Spanish company Trenzas y Cables (Tycsa), subsidiary of the iron and steel group Global Steel Wire (GSW), will invest Pta 3,000mn in a new factory in Santander (Spain). Some Pta 700mn of this investment will be spent in equipment. The new factory is expected to produce over 83,000 tonnes of pre-tautened and post-tautened wire a year, and to obtain a Pta 8,000mn turnover. Wire rod will be provided by a GSW factory close to the new one. Production will mainly supply the US and European markets.

In September 1998 the first Spanish cogeneration plant operating on biomass will begin a trial period in Villanueva de Gallego (Zaragoza) by electricity group Endesa. The technology, which is from ATEC and Greenwaste of Aragon, will be extended to some 15 plants in the region. The Villanueva plant required an investment of Pta 1,600mn. According to ATEC (Ahorro y Tecnologia de Control Energetico), these are the new types of cogeneration plants and do not exist anywhere else in Spain.
