UK economy
Article Abstract:
A Feb 1992 survey of the UK economy revealed that the recession had not ended. Four percent of companies were expected to reduce production. Unemployment rose by 53% in Jan 1992. Consumers had not increased spending, although this was felt to be due to uncertainty over the likely outcome of the general election. Interest rates had not fallen but this may be due to lack of flexibility in being linked to the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM.) Inflation was lower, and European inflation hoped to continue the trend.
