UK: LURPAK NUMBER ONE ON BUTTER MARKET
Article Abstract:
The Danish brand Lurpak has become number one on the British butter market. In the last twelve months, sales of Lurpak totalled GBP 97mn (DKr 1.1bn), which means the brand is bigger than the main competitor, the New Zealand brand Anchor. The success is attributed to the launch of Lurpak Spreadable, the sales value of which grew by 16% in 1998. The aim is, firstly, to reach a GBP 100mn turnover by the beginning of 2000, and then to become bigger than the margarine brand Flora, the sales of which total GBP 110mn a year.
