U.K. Yellow Pages, Equifax will supply new IT products

Equifax Inc., a US-based company, and U.K. Yellow Pages, a subsidiary of British Telecommunications PLC, have sealed a strategic alliance to provide new information-based technology products to their clients. Under the agreement, Yellow Pages will combine its database of UK businesses that advertises with the firm with Equifax's database of information about the company financial performances. The resulting service will allow customers of both firms to determine industry trends, business opportunities or potential partners using the combined data.

Cyber auctioneers are drawing bids of U.S. investors

Small on-line auction companies are attracting investors due to the popularity of Internet stocks. For instance, Spokane, WA-based retailer Egghead.com saw its stock price more than doubled after it posted better-than-expected revenue in its on-line auction business for computers and electronic goods. Meanwhile, Creative Computer plans to go public by selling a 20% stake of its Internet auction unit. All these activities are boosted by prediction by some experts that on-line auction companies will be the next hit.

EBay cuts fee, suspends plan after protests
Article Abstract:
eBay Inc. has lowered a new fee and suspended proposed bidding policy changes. The company made the moves in response to protests. EBay said that it would charge $1 (95 European cents) to sellers for "reserve-price auctions." The charge would go into effect on August 30, 1999. In these auctions, sellers would establish an undisclosed minimum price. They would not sell the product below that price.
