US Navy awards US$6.9 billion contract from Naval intranet

Article Abstract:

Electronic Data Systems (EDS) Corp has been awarded a five-year $6.9- billion contract by the US Navy to build, mantain and operate the Navy- Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI). Under the terms of the contract, EDS will be responsible for security and quality of service, training personnel, and maintaining and operating the network infrastructure that will support 360,000 users at 300 bases. The NMCI will provide data, video and voice communications to link shore units, and interface the Information Technology for the 21st Century initiative for afloat units.

Shotgun production contract awarded to consortium

Article Abstract:

Heckler and Koch Inc and Benelli Armi SpA's consortium has received a contract from the US Army Armaments Reseach Development and Engineering Center for the first year production of M1014 Joint Services Combat Shotgun. The HK/Benelli shotgun was chosen over four other rivals. The Marine Corps, which ordered 3,977 guns, will received the first 400 shotguns in Sep 2000. Subsequently, shotguns will be delivered monthly in lots of 500 until the first year's production is completed.

US military selects its 'Super' shotgun

Article Abstract:

The Beneli M4 Super 90 tactical shotgun has been selected by the US military and officially adopted as the XM1014 in Apr 1999. The M4 Super 90/XM1014 is a semi-automatic, gas-operated, tubular magazine-fed tactical shotgun which incorporated a novel design called Auto-Regulating Gas Operating. The gun will replace the Mossberg M590 and other tactical shotguns in the US armory. The gun was developed by Heckler and Koch Inc and Benelli.
