US Navy tests Magic Lantern aboard K-MAX
Article Abstract:
The US Navy has tested a remotely controlled variant of the Kaman Aerospace Magic Lantern minehunting system using the company's K-MAX helicopter. The tests were part of the Demonstration II phase of the Joint Countermine (JCM) advanced concept technology demonstration (ACTD). The Magic Lantern Adaptation variant consisted of a sensor pod mounted on the port side of the helicopter's fuselage and a processor and videocassette recorder installed inside the aircraft. Other electronics components were mounted on a rack placed on a second pod on the starboard side.

US Naval Sea Systems Command enhances remote minehunting capability
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems will receive a contract to further develop the AN/WLD-1 Remote Minehunting Systems (RMS) from the US Naval Sea Systems Command. The contract will call for the adoption of a new variable-depth sonar with a high search rate, forming the (V)4 version, and integration into the AN/SQQ-89(V) 15 undersea-warfare combat system aboard DDG-51 Flight IIA destroyers. The (V)4 will be installed on ships faster and with less modifications by using the modular design approach plus an integral launch and recovery system.
