Untangling the wires

Article Abstract:

The Taiwanese government is going to take control of its cable television industry in response to US threats of retaliation due to cable piracy. Cable is now illegal in Taiwan, but there are hundreds of local cable television networks which broadcast pirated signals. The government will first legalize the industry then award contracts to a select few companies who can meet capital requirements. Small operators fear that they will be forced out of business by media giants once the regulation takes place.
