Uranium Waste Site Provokes Anger

Article Abstract:

Concord, Mass.-based Starmet Corp. is being criticized by local environmenal groups and government officials for its failure to clean up a radioactive waste site. The site owned by Starmet, which makes munitions for the government, may be declared a Superfund site by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The processed uranium industry is growing as BHP Billiton PLC has put a bid in for WMC Resources Ltd. in Australia. With ever soaring oil prices and concerns over greenhouse gas emissions the United States is considering building more nuclear power plants and Asia is looking for energy alternatives.

Water-and-sewerage concern reduces annual pretax loss

Article Abstract:

AWG PLC posted a 42.4 million pounds (59.1 million euros) pretax loss for the year ending March 31, 2003. The company posted a 53.5 million pounds loss for the previous year.
