RECKITT & COLMAN MAY BUY OUT TORTOISE BRAND

Reckitt & Colman (R&C) has approached Bombay Chemicals Ltd (BCL) with a proposal to buy its mosquito repellent brand, Tortoise. R&C has its own mosquito repellent brand called Mortein. BCL produces 300-400 tonnes of mosquito coils every month at its two units in Mumbai. BCL however plans to sell the brand only if it decides to move out of the business. (um)(vr)

RIDING ON SALES, VIDEOCON H1 NET UP AT Rs68.97 CRORE

Videocon International Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs68.97 crore in the first half of 1998-99 (Rs61.61 crore in the first half of 1997-98). It has recorded gross profit of Rs108.54 crore (Rs86.76 crore) on sales of Rs1,153 crore (Rs908 crore). It has incurred interest cost of Rs66.53 crore (Rs39.03 crore). (gs)
