V&B opens its Chicago office

Article Abstract:

Vickers and Benson Companies Ltd., a Toronto, Canada-based agency, officially marked its US expansion with the unveiling of a 10-person office in Chicago, IL, in July 1998. Operating under the name Vickers and Benson Inc., the US division opens doors with billings of $20 million from clients Harris Bank and the Canadian Tourism Commission. The agency has long aimed to expand outside Canada as an alternative to selling to foreign agencies. The new division intends to hit its $20 million annual mark by catering V&B's other Canadian clients in the US as well as landing new clients from the American Midwest.

Microsoft's softer side

Article Abstract:

McCann-Erickson Worldwide has created three new TV spots that highlight the positive side of Microsoft's technology. Microsoft's new advertising campaign comes at a time when the US Dept of Justice is considering breaking up the company into two several organizations after it lost its antitrust case. One of the ads shows a son trying to access a forbidden Web site only to be stopped by safeguards installed on his computer. Another features a dyslexic girl using a computer program to help her learn to read.

PJ DDB bites off its share of Extras

Article Abstract:

Vancouver, Britis Columbia-based advertising agency, Palmer Jarvis DDB, has won three gold awards at the Extra Awards 2000. The ad agency won gold in the entertainment and media category, and the local single category for its ad 'Fingers' for the Vancouver Aquarium. The agency also won the top award for the 'Boots,' 'Croc' and Hors d'oeuvre' executions that were also created for the Vancouver Aquarium.
