BankBoston's plan for paper firm sidesteps fear of risks

Article Abstract:

BankBoston NA announces that its $100 million loan to Asia Pulp and Paper is a contract that shows how creditors can minimize risks in lending to Indonesian companies. The bank's credit uses the company's offshore commodities as collateral, which cannot be easily liquidated. The bank is considering applying the approach to other sectors and other companies.

Hong Kong-based Hang Seng Bank Ltd., unveils its electronic commerce plans with orders of credit-card payment system from Hewlett-Packard Co. Another affiliate of Hang Seng Bank, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp., joins forces with Cable and Wireless HKT Ltd., for electronic fund transfer system.
