Voting for change in Thailand and Japan: how Abe lost the plot

Article Abstract:

Voters disapproval of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's agenda led to Liberal Democratic Party's (LDP) significant loss in the Upper House elections held in July 2007. The set-back was largely attributed to the public's perception that Abe and the LDP failed in performing their duties and forming useful agenda for the people. Detailed evaluation of Abe's policy and popularity is given.

Japan Rising

Article Abstract:

An analysis of Japan's grand strategy, as discussed in Kenneth Pyle's "Japan Rising", is presented. Meiji leaders were observed to be different from the Japanese leaders during the World War II, with regards to policy commitments. An evaluation of the Japan-U.S. partnership, in terms of military operations, as shown in Rajan Menon's "The End of Alliances", is also given.

Can Fukuda rebuild trust in the LDP?

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's political agenda involves regaining the trust of the public and structural reforms in the cabinet by appointing faction leaders to key government positions. This political strategy of embracing the factions ensures that oppositions will be by his side to give him room to formulate his agenda.
