The term 'white-shoe' stems from the white buck shoes once used by men who attended Ivy League colleges, inciting envy in others. Yet today its usage is to disparage companies deemed stuffy, conservative and behind-the-times. The roots of 'nudge,' a fool, is traced back to usage in Homer's 'Odyssey.'
