Wal-mart sales top forecasts

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. posted an improvement of 7.2% in its sales for the month of September 1999. The company's figures were helped by strong back-to-school merchandising. Wal-Mart's figures were slightly higher than what it predicted and also slightly higher than what analysts had expected. The company said that it expects to see a 5% increase in same store sales for the month of October.

Kimberly-Clark's net rises by 7.5% on volume growth
