Weighing up the competition: the economy

Article Abstract:

Many voices in British industry and government have been calling for a new more sensible competition policy, but an examination of the markets suggests that competition in the UK is adequate. However, a potential for lack of competition exists, and competition policy reform could help prevent abuses.

Japan will hold its first election under a new system designed to reduce the expense of campaigning and, with it, the traditional corruption that has been present in Japanese politics. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party is expected to win, but the margin is uncertain.
