Article Abstract:

DVD players are fast selling consumer-electronics equipment in Hong Kong, although there are a few drawbacks to these sophisticated videodisk machines. Superior in performance and features to video CD and compact-disc players, these DVD machines can now be bought in Hong Kong from HK$3,000 to HK$6,000, compared to their launch prices of up to more than $HK$10,000, in early-1997. As an anti-piracy strategy, however, DVD disks made for sale in a certain region of the world, can not be viewed with DVD players made for other regions, and it is also not guaranteed that the sophisticated features enclosed in DVD players will be supported by any television-set model and make.
