Wolfgang Schauble, Germany's Sisyphus

The German Christian Democrats' leader, Wolfgang Schauble, looked set to become chancellor, and his party was performing well in the polls, but both he and his party have been affected by political scandals. Former leader, Helmut Kohl, has admitted keeping secret accounts, and there have been suspicions relating to Schauble's involvement in the affair. Schauble has the support of the party leadership, and is able to reform the party's finance and structure, though he faces a difficult task.
