Workers need pampering, too

Article Abstract:

Hotel owners throughout Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia complain that rapid hotel development and a very low local unemployment rate have tightened the labor market. As a result, most five-star hotels fail to deliver premium service due to understaffing. Hotels in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok and other key Asian cities also face a similar dilemma, prompting them into beefing up their salary packages and incentives to make the staff want to stay. Some entice their staff into staying through enhanced job satisfaction and better personal treatment.

Marriott may expand in Asia; joint venture with Sodexho frees capital

Article Abstract:

Marriott International Inc. of Washington, D.C. has agreed to a $2 bil joint venture with Sodexho Alliance SA of France. The deal will help the hotel company pay off a $1.45 million debt as well as allocate over $300 million in transferring its food and management services to the joint venture. CEO J. Willard Marriot Jr. also intends for an Asian expansion with the deal.

Article Abstract:

Asian hotels are suffering from increased larceny rates due, in part, to their efforts to provide gracious accomodations. Asian hotels are mildly successful in their efforts to protect themselves from stealing customers but the economic implications of these thefts are sometimes very large that they undermine the hotel's efforts.
