Apple Computer Inc. is developing a program development tool, the Lisa Toolkit, for its Lisa microcomputer. The first part of the Toolkit, the Workshop, is available, along with the Lisa, in the United Kingdom as of August 1983. The Toolkit should help independent programmers develop applications programs for the Lisa. A photograph of Apple's system software manager is included.

Lisa computers should be available by the end of September 1983 in the United Kingdom according to Apple of the United Kingdom. The Apple Computer company has begun an extensive training program since Lisa opens a new marketplace, that of the personal office system. Brian Reynolds of Apple United Kingdom anticipated that many companies will purchase Lisas.

The Lisa computer is the result of a $50 million Apple Computer research investment. The Lisa software manager says that while the Lisa concepts come from the Smalltal System at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, the two systems are very different. He asserted that Lisa would last through the 1980s.
