World International Holdings Ltd. (World) Chmn Peter Woo, who took over the chairmanship from his father-in-law, the late World founder Sir Y.K. Pao, is gaining more respect from Hongkong's business community with his astute management of the Pao family's listed companies. World's reputation as one of Hongkong's most profitable companies continues under Woo, who has increased his company's stakes in the hotel, transportation, and telecommunications industry. Woo's positive expectations for his company after 1997 is echoed in his enthusiastic support for China's economic development.

China Light and Power founder Lawrence Kadoorie is one of Hong Kong's industrial magnate. His success has proven that being a non-Chinese is not a handicap in the business world of Hong Kong. The eventual transfer of the colony to China poses no problem to the Kadoorie business empire. Kadoorie has cultivated friendly ties with the Chinese leadership over the years. It remains to be seen whether son Michael, who succeeds Kadoorie as Chairman soon, will be up to the task of maintaining the corporate empire's success.
