Xstrata makes $14.6 billion offer for Falconbridge

A bidding war for Falconbridge Ltd. of Canada has Xstrata PLC of Switzerland offering $14.6 billion or $52.50 Canadian Dollars ($47.39) per share. The offer tops an offer by Inco Ltd. of Canada of approximately $48.47 Canadian Dollars. Falconbridge Ltd. decided to take the Inco Ltd. offer because the move promised "unique and real synergies."
