Zetor increases loss nearly seven times

Article Abstract:

Zetor (Brno, Czech Republic), tractor manufacturer, saw a loss of 717 mil Kc in 1998 compared to the expected loss of 106 mil Kc. The firm's cumulative loss was 2.72 bil Kc and exceeded a half of its redeemed stock. The company's supplies of complete tractors decreased by 9% in 1998 compared to 1997. The firm's production volume increased by 2.6% to 5.7 bil Kc in 1998 compared to 1997. Zetor's proceeds decreased by 6% to 5.63 bil Kc in 1998 compared to 1997. The firm's bad results were influenced by an increase in costs on production and the failure of some planned contracts. The company has decreased its supplies to the network of John Deere (US), among others. Economic sanctions against Iraq, where a Zetor tractor assembly plant was built before, have negative influence over the firm's results too.

Why companies hire lobbyists

Article Abstract:

The representatives of major UK firms were surveyed to determine the reasons their companies hire lobbyists. Results show that the reasons for hiring lobbyists vary between companies. However, most firms will hire lobbyists whenever they believe that it would be beneficial to do so under certain operational circumstances. The 'propensity to hire' lobbyists is also influenced by the abilities of the corporate staff and economic trends.
