Bell, union agree on contract
Article Abstract:
Bell Atlantic Corp. and 73,000 of its workforce have reached a new two-year labor agreement that effectively ended a company-wide strike on Aug. 11, 1998. The workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), claim to have gain back some concessions related to the hiring of outside contractors and the imposed limits on overtime. Bell Atlantic's vice chairman and chief executive, Ivan Seidenberg, has been credited by the union's president, Morton Bahr. for his role in the early resolution of the labor conflict.
