Biotech firm alleges 'illegal' short-selling of stock
Article Abstract:
Hemispherx BioPharma alleged that the firm's stock is being undermined by unfavorable reports on the drug it is developing against chronic fatigue. The Philadelphia-based biotechnology firm said in its report to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the American and Nasdaq Stock Exchanges that the false report appeared in Business Week. A column in the Sept. 28, 1998 issue of the business magazine ran a quotation from investment banker and broker Manuel Asensio, which emphasized that the antiviral drug Ampligen is harmful, outdated and ineffective.
