Business directory feud goes to court

Verizon Communications is suing Yellow Book, its business-directory competitor, claiming the latter's television commercials and sales tactics constitute false advertising with their reference to 'the Phone Company' and 'the other book'. Meanwhile, a group of dissident investors on July 13, 2004 exercised options to buy 895,240 shares of PSB Bancorp, but the stock certificates and proceeds will remain in escrow until a federal court decides if the transaction can move forward.

Frank Pringle, a mechanical engineer by training, came up with a microwave-powered process that would fix flaws that have damned others' oil-chemy attempts. In the mid-1990s, Pringle had developed a method for automatically sorting glass for recycling, but his company went out of business after he lost a power struggle while recovering from an auto accident.

Verizon chastened, but is allowed to remain whole
Article Abstract:
The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission has ruled that Verizon Communications will not have to be divided into separate retail and wholesale operations. The PUC had also ruled that the wholesale division must abide by a code of conduct that does not favor its retail division over competitors. This is seen as a win for consumers.
