Chester loses 82 jobs as Hatfield closes meat-processing plant
Article Abstract:
Hatfield Quality Meats Inc. shutdown its Chester, PA-based meat processing plant, laying off 82 employees. Hatfield said the plant, which has been in Chester since the 1930's, was in disrepair and was costing too much to run. In 1997, Hatfield borrowed $500,000 for plant installations and purchased a vacant building next to the plant in hopes of upgrading their Chester facilities. The plans never came to fruition as they realized the expense would be too costly to the company.
