Tenet Healthcare arrives with a burst of symbolism

Article Abstract:

Tenet Healthcare Corp (Santa Barbara, CA) is restoring the traditional names of the 8 Philadelphia hospitals it aquired from the bankrupt Allegheny University. The for-profit hospital chain's name and logo will be secondary, according to Tenet vp David S. McAdam. The non-profit Pittsburgh-based Allegheny renamed each of the Philadelphia hospitals it acquired in the 1980s and 1990s, and Tenet will now remove Allegheny's name to suggest a restoration of the hospitals to the community, McAdam says. On Nov 10, 1998, Tenet launches a $1 mil television, radio and newspaper campaign with the slogan "Let the Healing Begin," to emphasize its role as rescuer of the troubled hospitals.
