Mayor Kip Holden has declared that Baton Rouge will be the next great city in America. Good public participation, regional governance, investments, planning, and young educated professionals are among the elements that great cities have in common. A comparison of Baton Rouge and other cities such as Austin, Nashville, Portland and Raleigh-Durnham is supplied.
