Bell Atlantic starts selling its version of satellite TV today

Bell Atlantic has begun selling and installing DirectTV and other direct-broadcast programming in the Philadelphia area. The carrier has partnered up with satellite-based DirectTV in the hope of finding an effective, low-cost way into the video market and a way to compete against the cable industry. The carrier plans to use its access to customers' homes by marketing the service to people who request phone installations. It will also market the service through other channels.
