Insurer is sued over ads for HMO
Article Abstract:
Aetna U.S. Healthcare is being sued by a California-based, nonprofit, advocacy group over alleged misleading ads regarding its HMO. The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights is challenging Aetna's ad statements which claims that 'members health is its first priority.' The Foundation says Aetna's true goal is shareholder return and that Aetna has special incentive agreements with physicians who encourage their patients to use certain services less. A similar suit in the 1980s', Teti vs. U.S. Healthcare, was thrown out of the courts and legal analysts speculate a similar fate for the current suit. One of the law firms that will be representing the Foundation is Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach of New York.
