Louisiana at a loss

Article Abstract:

A regulation that requires businesses to withhold Louisiana income tax on payments to independent contractors, payments of natural resource royalties to nonresidents, rent to nonresident lessors and royalties for the use of intangible property was proposed by the Department of Revenue on March 2007. In 1934, such regulation was approved by the Legislature but never enacted due to concerns that it might burden businesses in Louisiana. The state had lost $293 million in 2001 alone due to corporate tax shelters.

An online survey on 2,137 employed adults was conducted by Spherion Corporation, a recruiting and staffing company. Results show that 69% of respondents agreed that taking supplies home from the office is wrong, but 19% admitted doing so. Only 21% of those who admitted have indicated that they felt guilty in doing the act. An analysis of the results is also presented.

Like pulling teeth

Article Abstract:

Some dentists do not accept patients who use Medicaid as this pays less than 60% of dentists' average fee and not all dentists are signed up for Medicaid. One way to resolve the issue is to have dental therapists who can offer services in remote sites. Details on the topic and figures of average net income from practice of independent dentists are presented.
