Article Abstract:

Cases of corruption in Louisiana are discussed. Federal prosecutors believe that the announcement of corruption charges against politicians is actually an indication of positive development, since it signals the state's tough stand against crime. The sentencing of Will Langlinais, former Iberia Parish President, for malfeasance and use of public funds on his property, is discussed. Other corruption cases involving other officials are also presented.

Blueprint Louisiana, a group of concerned community and business leaders and citizens, is pushing for measures to influence state elections in fall 2007 to improve ethics in politics. The organization has set five major goals for the next governor and legislature. Details regarding these goals are discussed.
