Malvern, PA-based healthcare information-services firm Shared Medical Systems Inc. has agreed to be bought out by Siemens AG of Germany for $2.1 billion in cash and stock. The troubled company rejected an unsolicited takeover bid from Eclipsys Corp. earlier in 2000.

SCT hopes to ink similar deals in China to the one it is still negotiating. Hebei Electric will license the Synchro customer-management system from SCT to manage rates, schedule service and handle billing. SCT has a network of customers in Hong Kong, which led the company to mainland China for this deal. Hebei Electric has 3 million residential, commercial and industrial customers.
